Screening & Discussion Session "Filming 3.11: Accumulated Layers of Small Stories" (Yamagata, Nov 6)

10/20/2016

311 Documentary Film Archive Presents:

Screening & Discussion Session - "Filming 3.11: Accumulated Layers of Small Stories"

It’s been five years since the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. This screening & discussion event will review what kind of documentaries have been produced on this subject and consider the roles future documentaries can play towards the recovery of afflicted communities. The 90-minute record of testimonies of 60 survivors Anohi o ikita watashitachi (2015)—filmed by first-year students at the Tohoku University of Art and Design (TUAD)—will be screened. What can we see from the accumulation of small voices and stories? A panel discussion will follow, inviting “documentarians” of various fields and the filmmakers themselves to reflect once again on the meaning of recording the disaster.
